Just as the expression “bread and butter” refers to something essential and inseparable, the pair becomes the core framework of the exhibition. When two objects are placed together, they begin to reveal what a single object cannot—how they complement each other, how they define each other’s identity, and what makes them complete. Through pairs, participating designers interpret and materialize their own understanding of everyday rituals and relationships between objects. Functional, aesthetic, and social relationships emerge within one space, where objects naturally reflect one another while creating new connections and opening space for dialogue.
Bread and Butter presented its first edition, Perfect Pair in Dining, at 3daysofdesign 2025, exploring relationships and togetherness through the ritual of dining. The second edition, Perfect Pair in Bathing, continues this exploration through shared and personal experiences of bathing. In November 2026, a new edition centered around another everyday ritual will follow in Seoul. Through each edition, Bread and Butter continues building an evolving archive that will eventually take the form of a publication.

Bread and Butter is a design exhibition that explores the idea of the Perfect Pair through everyday dining objects.
Featuring 12 designers from Korea, Denmark, and the Netherlands, the show presents dining objects that complete, contrast, and complement each other—both functionally and aesthetically. Some objects work as one unified system, while others define each other’s identity or complete what is otherwise incomplete.
From complementary systems to subtle contrasts, each piece reflects a unique perspective on balance and togetherness.
Set in the newly opened Korean restaurant OURI, the exhibition takes place during 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen.
